Barnsley’s achievements in the last 12-months have been particularly impressive, with Paul Heckingbottom firstly guiding the Tykes to the Sky Bet Championship and then establishing them in the second-tier.

The club have also had to contend with an exodus of key players over the last year, with their promotion-winning side heading off in different directions.

Sam Winnall, James Bree and Conor Hourihane were three high-profile departures during the January transfer window, and Josh Scowen and Marley Watkins are set to leave the club this summer, having rejected new deals at Barnsley.

Heckingbottom now faces the task of re-building a squad that can compete in the Championship and should target a deal for Brighton and Hove Albion duo, Rohan Ince and Richie Towell, who have been told by Chris Hughton they will be leaving the Amex Stadium on-loan.

Barnsley have already been linked with a move for Ince, who has spent the second-half of the season on-loan in League One with Swindon Town, where he scored two goals in 14 appearances.

Despite his stats from this season not reading particularly well, Ince, 24, can still offer a lot in the Championship and was a regular at the Amex Stadium between 2013 and 2015.

Towell has found opportunities a lot more limited with Brighton, having made just five senior appearances since his arrival at the Amex Stadium.

However, Hughton has stated how impressed he is with Towell, and with the 25-year old having a point to prove to his parent-club, Barnsley could benefit from signing the Irishman.

Heckingbottom did fantastically well to guide Barnsley to a 14th placed finish last season, particularly after the departures during January, and the Tykes are set to face a far more difficult campaign next year, with more players on their way out of Oakwell.

The loan signing of this Brighton duo, who both have a point to prove to Hughton, could be a fantastic piece of business for Barnsley to do.
