Millwall, Preston North End and Barnsley are all interested in making a potential move for Walsall forward Josh Gordon this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

Gordon enjoyed a productive season with Walsall in League Two last campaign with the 25-year-old managing to register 12 goals to help the Saddlers to a comfortable mid-table finish, and the attacker was also amongst their most influential performers the previous campaign with nine goals in League One.

Millwall have already added to their attacking options with the arrival of Troy Parrot on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, but the Lions could still look to add some extra firepower to their squad, while both Preston and Barnsley will be looking to add more goals to their side before the start of next season.

Quiz: Are these 10 facts about Millwall actually true?

It is thought that with Gordon entering the final year of his contract with Walsall the League Two club would consider cashing in on him for around £250,000, and that has alerted all of Millwall, Preston and Barnsley to the 25-year-old’s situation as all three clubs weigh up whether to make a move.

The verdict

You can certainly see why Gordon is attracting the interest of all three of Millwall, Preston and Barnsley, given that he has shown plenty of encouraging signs over the last two seasons with Walsall having left Premier League Leicester City to get regular game time two-years ago.

Given the current state of finances in football the fact that a player with Gordon’s potential to be developed further could be available for a round £250,000, it would be no surprise to see clubs taking a keen interest in him as they look for potential bargains to add extra firepower to their squads.

Millwall and Preston will both have strong ambitions to challenge the top six again next season, and it remains to be seen whether Gordon would be able to step up to that sort of level in the Championship, while Barnsley will also be aiming higher after surviving on the last day of the campaign so a move for the 25-year-old would be a little bit of a gamble.
