Championship side Barnsley are being made to wait by Swansea City for striker Oliver McBurnie, according to manager Paul Heckingbottom via BBC Radio Sheffield’s Jonathan Buchan on Twitter.

The 21-year-old moved to the Liberty Stadium back in 2015 after coming up through the youth ranks at Bradford City, with whom he then went on to appear 20 times for but in time failed to net for the Bantams.

And the Scotland Under-21 international has unsurprisingly seen gametime hard to come by in South Wales, although did earn five Premier League appearances for Paul Clement’s side last term, and came on as a second half substitute in their 0-0 draw with Southampton last weekend.

Yet it does appear that he will be joining Heckingbottom’s Barnsley at some stage this month, although recent reports suggest that they are being made to wait by the Swans as they seek a replacement for the 21-year-old.

Ultimately, McBurdie has been in and around the Swansea first team in the last six months and has subsequently made the bench in several of their Premier League games in 2017, and clearly manager Clement feels that they need another forward in before the August 31 deadline to then allow the 21-year-old to get first team experience at Barnsley.

The Tykes recorded their first win of the season on Tuesday night with a 2-1 success over Nottingham Forest, and that will give them renewed confidence going into their clash with Sheffield United on Saturday.

However, it doesn’t appear likely that McBurdie will be part of the squad that travels to Bramall Lane this weekend.

The Verdict: As is so often the case in the transfer market, teams are having to wait on other teams to do deals to get their man through the door.

And that appears to be what’s happening at Swansea City, with Oliver McBurdie clearly allowed to leave the club this month for Championship side Barnsley, yet the Swans themselves are seeking a replacement before sanctioning the deal.

And this will surely come as frustration to Tykes boss Paul Heckingbottom, who had seen his side struggle in the early stages of the season before their win over Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night, yet it still seems evident that further reinforcements are required to help the club avoid the drop this term.

Yet they will have to wait for McBurdie’s arrival.
