Sky Bet Championship side Barnsley are closing in on Luton Town ace Cameron McGeehan, according to HITC Sport.

The 21-year-old midfielder has been one of the stand-out performers in League Two this season - he has scored ten times and provided two assists in 24 appearances.

What makes this deal a surprise, is that the highly-rated talent is currently sidelined with a long-term injury after breaking his leg against Portsmouth.

However, despite the injury, McGeehan has been linked with a move to the Championship.

Paul Heckingbottom and Barnsley have developed a reputation of picking up lower league talents and enhancing their development, and Cameron McGeehan could be the next talent that is brought to Oakwell.

The goalscoring midfielder could potentially be a natural replacement for Conor Hourihane who left the Yorkshire club to join Aston Villa.

It would be a risk for Barnsley to sign the midfielder who is currently sidelined with a long-term injury, however, it could prove to be another astute signing made by Paul Heckingbottom's side.

Barnsley fans, what do you make of the news? Would you like to see Cameron McGeehan join your club? Is he the calibre of signing that you'd like your club to be making?
