Daniel Stendel’s Barnsley want to keep defender Ethan Pinnock at the club, and are trying to get him to sign a new deal at Oakwell.
The Reds are desperate to try and keep hold of some of their better players upon their return to the Championship despite being known as a selling club in the last few seasons, and according to Alan Nixon, Pinnock is the man they want to tie down to the club first.
Pinnock has been superb for Barnsley since joining the club from Forest Green Rovers back in 2017, and he looks like being the latest in a long line of defenders to develop at Barnsley and potentially move on to bigger and better things for a big fee.
The likes of Marc Roberts and Mason Holgate have done this in the past, while Alfie Mawson was another player who developed at Barnsley before moving on to the Premier League.
Pinnock, who is still only 26, has a year to run on his current deal and will be the subject of admiring glances from other clubs this summer no doubt, owing to his excellent performances last season for the South Yorkshire club.
Barnsley will be hoping to tie Pinnock down before looking to bring in new players as they plot their assault on the second tier once more.
This is crucial for Barnsley, with Pinnock being such a quality operator.
I don’t know how they do it, but they keep signing these players and bringing them on, and it’s an impressive trait to have as a club.
Pinnock will be vital for Barnsley in how well they do next season, and if he does indeed sign a new deal, it might well be a sign that times might just changing that little bit at Oakwell.
