Sky Sports understands that Barnsley forward Marley Watkins has handed in a transfer request at the club.
Watkins has been on the receiving end of a lot of interest from several Championship clubs including Ipswich Town and Bristol City.
The 26-year-old has played a big part in Barnsley’s rise in the Football League since joining the Tykes in 2015, especially this season where he has added 6 goals and 8 assists to the side.
But it now seems that the versatile forward is on his way out of the club which is news that Barnsley fans were praying weren’t true, as they have already lost Sam Winnall and James Bree this month as well as possibly seeing the last of Conor Hourihane.
If Paul Heckingbottom is unable to keep Watkins and Hourihane at the club, then Barnsley’s excellent first half of the season could be followed by a huge drop in standards.
