Barnsley's under 23's side ran out convincing 3-0 winners against Sheffield Wednesday on Monday afternoon, with one returning forward getting on the scoresheet.

Patrick Schmidt made his return from injury on the day, and will be pleased to mark his return with a goal for the Tykes under 23's.

Schmidt took to Twitter following his return from a spell in the treatment room, and has insisted that he is ready to make an impact for Adam Murray's first team this season now.

Schmidt signed for Barnsley during the summer transfer window, but has been restricted to just four appearances for the Tykes first team due to injuries.

Barnsley are currently sat bottom of the Championship table, and will be hoping to move clear of the relegation zone at the earliest of opportunities.

The likes of Cauley Woodrow have been in impressive form so far this season despite the Tykes' struggles so far in this year's league campaign.

Woodrow has five goals to his name, and it seems as though Schmidt could have a tough job to force his way into Adam Murray's starting XI this season.

Barnsley are next in action against Bristol City, in what is certain to be a tricky test for the Tykes as they look to pick up their second win of the season.

The Verdict:

It's going to be tough for him to start for the Tykes this season.

Schmidt was signed by Daniel Stendel who has since been sacked as Barnsley's manager, and I think with the good form shown by Cauley Woodrow, then Schmidt's opportunities are likely to be limited in this year's league campaign.

The Tykes can't afford to wait around to see if he adjusts to the physical demands of English football, as they'll find themselves in League One if they continue to struggle in the Championship.
