League One promotion hopefuls Barnsley are eyeing up a move for Scottish defender Jason Kerr.

The 21-year-old is impressing for St Johnstone up in Scotland, but his performances have caught the attention of the Reds, who, according to Alan Nixon, have already made their bid.

Barnsley have made a habit in the last few seasons of adding quality players to the ranks for relatively cheap, and have raided the Scottish market before for the likes of Liam Lindsay, who has gone on to become a superb signing for the South Yorkshire club.

Kerr, who has delivered some superb displays himself for the St Johnstone this term, would no doubt relish a move into the English game with the League One club, who are primed to make a run at promotion back to the Championship, sitting in third at the moment.

The young defender spent last season on loan with Queens Park, and that move appears to have paid off handsomely for Kerr, who has found himself thrust firmly into the action this term with his parent club.

The Verdict

This would no doubt be a fine signing once again for the Reds, and while little is probably known about Kerr in England, you have to trust the Barnsley scouts based on their previous.

Kerr would slot in nicely, and with interest in the aforementioned Liam Lindsay in the January window already, signing Kerr might well prove a shrewd piece of business by the club.
