Barnsley are understood to be close to signing Huddersfield Town defender Jordan Williams.

The right-back is currently having a medical at Oakwell with the view to a permanent deal, according to Sky Sports.

An undisclosed fee has been agreed between the two clubs with a medical taking place ahead of the proposed move.

The 18-year-old spent time on loan at Bury last year and made 14 appearances in all competitions for the Shakers.

Williams featured once for his current Premier League side in the EFL Cup early last season.

Barnsley are in the market for a new right-back after Andy Yiadom’s move to Reading opened up a gap in the Tykes’ back-line.

With the move set to go ahead, that gap is going to be filled by the England U18 international.

The Verdict

It is a good signing or Barnsley who needed extra cover at the back after their summer departures.

With Andy Yaidom moving to Championship side Reading, the need for another defender become a necessity.

The England U18 international is a good, young talent and will do well having a settled home to learn his trade and play regularly in a side that is hoping to be pushing towards the top end of League One.

Huddersfield’s extended stay in the Premier League means chances will be limited for the young defender so offloading him is for his benefit, with Barnsley a good fit.
