Although Barnsley exceeded expectations last term, and pulled off a respectable 14th placed finish in the Championship, many pundits believe that they would have gone on to finish further if they could have kept club's top goalscorer Sam Winnall, who left the club for Sheffield Wednesday last January.

Scoring 11 goals for the Tykes in the first half of the season, they were valued goals that they severely missed in the second half of the season, leaving them to rely even more on Marley Watkins to provide goals.

Unfortunately for Paul Heckingbottom's side Watkins is now no longer with the club, after not agreeing to sign a new deal he left for Norwich at the beginning of this summer window.

This has left Barnsley with a dire need to sign a new talisman who can replace Winnall and Watkins at the top of the field.

Motherwell's Louis Moult, who is valued at £425k on transfermarkt, could potentially be the ideal man to take Barnsley to the next level.

Since joining the Scottish side from Wrexham in 2015, Moult has been firing in the goals ever since, scoring 36 goals in 69 appearances for Motherwell, he has been one of Scotland's most prolific forwards in the past two seasons.

A complete forward, the 25-year-old is able to create goals out of nothing, as well as playing as an ideal target man for Motherwell, if Moult was to utilised in a two wingers system like in Scotland, he would prove to be an amazing asset to Barnsley's side.

With Moult also being quite young, he still has plenty of years to grow as a player, therefore if Barnsley were to offer him a good amount of first team football and experience, he has the potential to grow into one of the Championship's best players.
