Barnsley have confirmed that midfielder, Ryan Hedges has left the club to join Scottish side, Aberdeen on a permanent deal.

It had previously been revealed by Barnsley that the Welshman had been offered a new deal at Oakwell, but he evidently favoured a move to Aberdeen.

Hedges made 59 appearances for the Tykes, since signing from Swansea back in 2017.

But the 23-year-old struggled for starts in Daniel Stendel's side this season, as Barnsley won promotion into the Championship ahead of Sunderland and Charlton.

In total, he was limited to just five league starts, which will have been a disappointment for the midfielder, who clearly had one eye on a move elsewhere in the summer.

Barnsley will be hoping that they can build a squad capable of putting up a fight in the Championship, with new additions likely as Stendel looks to add depth to his side.

Aberdeen will be keen to build on an impressive season, with Derek McInnes' side finishing 4th in the Scottish Premiership in this year's campaign.

The Verdict:

I'm not surprised by this at all.

Hedges wasn't a regular in the Barnsley squad and a move to Aberdeen is the best move for both parties involved here.

Barnsley will be able to reinvest his wages elsewhere, as they prepare for life in the Championship next season.
