Barnsley have confirmed that Gerhard Struber has finalised his team after making a number of changes to his backroom staff.

The Austrian took charge at Oakwell last week, more than a month after Daniel Stendel had his contract terminated.

Adam Murray stepped into the role of caretaker manager during that period and the 38-year-old has now officially left his position as U18s coach to take become a first team coach.

Barnsley announced last week that former Arsenal and QPR defender Matt Rose and Max Senft, who worked under Struber at his previous club Wolfsberger AC, had joined as first team coaches.

The Tykes have now confirmed that with the exit of first team coach Dale Tonge, Struber has finalised the changes to his staff.

Tonge stepped into the role last season and played a key part in the successful League One promotion campaign in 2018/19.

A statement from the club added: "Everyone connected to Barnsley Football Club would like to thank him for his efforts in securing a memorable promotion."

The Verdict

It appears Struber feels he has made all the changes he needs to his backroom staff to feel comfortable.

Murray did a good job as caretaker boss and it looks a smart move keeping him close, while the additions of Senft and Rose both bring their own advantages.

With just over a month until January, Barnsley fans will likely be hoping that the club back Struber in the transfer market as well.
