Barnsley have confirmed that attacking midfielder Mike Bahre will join the club on a permanent transfer this summer.

The 23-year-old joined the club on a season-long loan from Bundesliga side Hannover 96 in the summer and the club have exercised their option to sign him on a permanent deal.

Bahre was an important player for Barnsley this season, scoring one goal and providing six assists for his teammates in 35 appearances in League One, helping the team secure automatic promotion to the Championship.

The transfer is due to go through when the window opens in June and Barnsley have not announced the length of the contract the German has signed.

Barnsley finished second in the League One this season, securing a return to the Championship at the first time of asking, but just missed out on the league title to Luton Town on the final day of the season.

The Verdict:

This has got to be considered a boost for Barnsley. Bahre is a talented player and has impressed fans at Oakwell this season with his technical ability.

Head coach Daniel Stendel will be looking to build a team that can compete in the Championship next season and Bahre is a player he knows very well, having managed him before at Hannover 96.
