Barnsley have today completed their fourth signing of the month in the form of Uruguayan forward Mateo Aramburu on a free transfer.

The 20-year-old has signed an initial contract until the end of the current season and is expected to join the Tykes' under-23 squad led by Martin Devaney.

He joins Jordan Smith and Jordan Green as new arrivals at Oakwell and also Cauley Woodrow who made his loan move permanent this month.

Aramburu joins at a good time with Daniel Stendel's side rediscovering their best form in recent weeks, winning five of their last six matches and scoring 12 goals in the process.

Last weekend's 4-1 thumping of AFC Wimbledon at Kingsmeadow moved them to within four points of second-placed Luton Town and just one behind Sunderland who sit in third.

They also now have a six-point cushion on Doncaster Rovers who sit one place outside the play-off places as they look to make an immediate return to the second tier.

This weekend sees them host relegation-threatened Rochdale at Oakwell.

The verdict

I mean honestly, who among us can say whether this is a good signing or not?

One thing is for sure and that is that you have to respect Daniel Stendel for taking a gamble on the youngster. He was a free agent and probably on fairly small wages.

It is ultimately risk-free and if it pays off he will look like a genius.
