Barnsley are now planning for life back in the Championship after securing automatic promotion at their first attempt in League One.

Manager Daniel Stendel has been widely praised for masterminding Barnsley's success this season as they finished second behind Luton Town in the third tier.

The club held a civic reception on Wednesday evening to mark the achievement, during which the club's co-chairman outlined the club's transfer strategy for the coming summer.

Paul Conway insisted the club will follow its usual recruitment methods by signing young, hungry players to compete for the club in the Championship.

"There is only one strategy. It is a commitment to the youth, academy and our pressing style," he told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"Being in the Championship allows us to get a higher probability of our recruits and we have the same recruits. It does not matter what league we are in. It is obviously a little bit more appealing for some players to come to a Championship squad."

Kenny Dougall, 25,  was the oldest player Barnsley signed last summer and it now looks likely this transfer window will see the club target a similar age bracket.

The Verdict

Conway also revealed he wants Stendel to stay at the club for a long time, and I think this should also be a priority.

Their approach to signings has served Barnsley well in the past, and they definitely have the right manager in place to develop their young recruits for years to come.

Their recruitment strategy, combined with Stendel's managerial nous, makes the coming seasons an exciting prospect for the Oakwell outfit.
