Sky Bet Championship sides Barnsley, Bristol City and Cardiff City are all interested in signing St. Johnstone defender Jason Kerr this summer, according to reports from The Scottish Sun.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a hugely impressive season with the Saints last season, making 44 appearances in all competitions and helping the club finish in a respectable 7th spot in the SPFL table.

Barnsley saw a £250,000 bid for the central defender turned down in January, and in response, St. Johnstone tied him down to a new three-year deal in an attempt to keep hold of their star-man.

It is understood that the Tykes will go back in for Kerr this summer, with Liam Lindsay believed to be attracting interest from the likes of Derby County, West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City.

But Daniel Stendel's side will face competition from Bristol City and Cardiff in pursuit of the defender, with the Saints set to demand a seven-figure fee for the Scot should a team wish to come in and buy him.

St. Johnstone will be reluctant to lose their homegrown star, who has made over 60 appearances for the Scottish club since signing his first professional deal.

The Verdict

Kerr looks to be a really solid defender, who like Liam Lindsay, has plenty of years ahead of him to grow and develop as a player.

You would imagine that Barnsley will be the favourites to sign Kerr, with Lindsay's future at Oakwell looking uncertain amid interest from bigger teams.

Bristol City will be looking to sign a new defender should they fail to re-sign Tomas Kalas from Chelsea, though, so it will be a hectic race.
