Barnsley, Brentford, and Luton Town are reportedly interested in signing free agent forward Andre Green, who is clubless after leaving Aston Villa in the summer.

Green spent 15 years at Villa and helped them secure promotion to the Premier League in the 2018/19 campaign but fell out of favour completely and did not feature once for them after their arrival in the top flight.

The 22-year-old struggled to make much of an impact while on loan at first Preston and then Charlton Athletic last term but it seems he is not short of Championship suitors after leaving his boyhood club.

According to a report from The Athletic, the Tykes, Brentford, and Luton are all interested in signing the 22-year-old, who is "fit and raring to go".

It has also been suggested that Sheffield Wednesday could reignite their interest in him after Tony Pulis' exit.

Green was highly-rated at Villa as a young player, as his 48 appearances for the senior side show, and former manager Tim Sherwood is a particularly big admirer.

He told The Athletic: "I love Andre and I’m very surprised (that he doesn’t have a club). He’s got ridiculous pace and goes past people like Ronaldo used to."

Can you name each of these 17 ex-Barnsley players just by looking at these 3 clues?

The Verdict

This looks like the sort of move that could turn out to be a masterstroke.

The 22-year-old has all the qualities to be a really dangerous weapon at Championship level and it would be no surprise to see more teams in the second tier enter the race for him.

A fresh start is likely what the forward needs to kick-start his career and it seems he is going to get that soon.

The Bees will likely be the most desirable destination for Green and you wouldn't bet against them turning him into a prolific forward but I'd love to see him slot into Ismael Valerien's Barnsley side.

It's going to be interesting to see how this progresses.
