Speaking to the Sheffield Star, Paul Heckingbottom has confirmed he expects to discover where Andy Yiadom’s future will be in the coming days.

Yiadom has entered the final 12-months of his contract at Oakwell, and after Barnsley failed to negotiate fresh terms with the right-back, he looks set to leave the club between now and the end of the transfer window.

Huddersfield Town have had an offer accepted for Yiadom, but he is yet to complete his move across Yorkshire, remaining on Barnsley’s books at this current time.

Heckingbottom cut a frustrated figure when discussing Yiadom’s situation, with the Barnsley boss keen to see the transfer saga come to an end, he said: “It can’t go on much longer.

“I’m not going to be thinking about it until after the game against Nottingham Forest (tonight).

“I’ll expect to know what’s happening either Wednesday or Thursday.”

Yiadom has so far made 35 appearances for Barnsley, including two at the start of the 2017/18 campaign.

The 25-year-old featured in Barnsley’s opening day defeat to Bristol City in the Sky Bet Championship, and then against Morecambe in the Carabao Cup, a tie that Heckingbottom’s side won 4-3.

Heckingbottom opted to leave Yiadom out of Saturday’s clash with Ipswich Town, as Barnsley suffered a second league defeat of the season.

The Tykes are now looking for their first points of the campaign this evening, when they welcome Nottingham Forest to Oakwell.

The Verdict

Yiadom’s situation will be frustrating for everyone at Oakwell, with Barnsley desperate to close the door on the ongoing speculation.

The right-back’s eventual departure will be a blow for Barnsley, who have started the 2017/18 Championship season poorly, with back-to-back defeats.

Whatever transfer-fee Heckingbottom receives, he must reinvest that into his squad, to replace the quality that is leaving Oakwell.

Heckingbottom will want the situation resolved as quickly as possible, to give himself the best chance of finding the quality needed.
