Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom is relishing his side’s trip to Wembley to face Tottenham Hotspur in the third round of the Carabao Cup this evening, and hopes the hosts field a full-strength side.

In an interview with The Yorkshire Post, the young boss spoke of his excitement, and hoped to emulate the success of previous Barnsley results in the competition, including a 5-2 extra-time victory over West Ham United at Upton Park

The Tykes have experienced a difficult start to the season, picking up just seven points in as many games, and the opportunity to turn their attentions away from their league form will come as a relief to Heckingbottom’s men.

Fans will be keen to see an upset upon the hallowed turf under the arch this evening, but Heckingbottom has said his players hope to see Tottenham’s Premier League starting XI on the team-sheet.

“My lads will want Tottenham to be as strong as possible. Everyone wants to play against the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli,” he said.

“I would have preferred the game to be at White Hart Lane, but the boys want it at Wembley.”

The Verdict

It’s going to be very tough for the Tykes this evening against a Spurs side sure to be full of seasoned internationals, but the south Yorkshire club will relish the opportunity to punch above their weight.

Games like this do not come around very often, and Heckingbottom’s men must play to their full ability to prove to the Championship, and others in the competition, that they are not to be taken lightly.

Mauricio Pochettino will make changes to the side that drew with Swansea at the weekend, but with Spurs record at Wembley extremely questionable, you just never know what the Cup might throw up.

Oh, and Heckingbottom is two for two at the home of football...

Barnsley fans, can you really pull an upset off?
