Speaking to the BBC, Paul Heckingbottom has admitted that Andy Yiadom will not be selected whilst his future remains “up in the air.”

Reports emerged last week that Yiadom was on the verge of ending his 12-month association with Barnsley, with Huddersfield Town his likely destination.

However, despite undergoing a medical with the Premier League outfit, the player’s £2m transfer is yet to be completed and he is still on the books at Oakwell heading into the transfer window’s final few weeks.

Speaking about Yiadom’s current situation, Heckingbottom said: “As far as I know, it is still all up in the air.”

The Barnsley boss also confirmed that Yiadom would not be picked whilst his future remained unclear, stating that it was not fair on the rest of his squad.

Yiadom featured in Barnsley’s first two fixtures of the season, a 3-1 defeat to Bristol City and a 4-3 victory over Morecambe in the Carabao Cup.

However, Heckingbottom decided to leave the right-back out of Barnsley’s clash with Ipswich Town on Saturday, as his side suffered a 2-1 defeat to Mick McCarthy’s side.

The 25-year-old is not likely to feature in Barnsley’s clash with Nottingham Forest on Tuesday evening, where Heckingbottom’s side will be looking to pick up their first points of the season and haul themselves out of the bottom-three.

The Verdict

Heckingbottom and Barnsley find themselves in a difficult situation with Yiadom, with the Tykes probably wishing a transfer could be finalised so they can move on.

Barnsley will want to strengthen when Yiadom leaves, and Heckingbottom will realise the need for reinforcements, particularly after a difficult start to the season.

Two defeats at the start of the season have already given Barnsley a mountain to climb, and Heckingbottom will be hoping his side can turn things around quickly in the Championship.
