Barnsley manager Paul Heckingbottom has confirmed that defender Andy Yiadom is back in training, and could be available for Saturday’s visit of Middlesbrough.

In an interview with BBC Radio Sheffield, the 40-year-old boss spoke of how the Ghanaian defender had returned to training following a remarkable recovery from injury, and may be in line for a return to action against Garry Monk’s men on Saturday.

Almost moving to Swansea City in the summer before any potential deal fell through at the last minute, the former Barnet man remained with the Tykes, and has impressed in the outings he has managed to muster thus far.

News of Yiadom’s potential return will come as a welcome boost to fans, whose side have picked up just eleven points from their opening ten games of the new campaign.

Boro will offer a formidable challenge to Heckingbottom’s men when they come to Oakwell this season, with the Teessiders said to be bringing over 4,700 fans with them on Saturday afternoon.

The Verdict

Yiadom is a fantastic young defender and one of Barnsley’s best players, so all associated with the club will be delighted to have him back in contention.

The Tykes have played some decent football at times this season, and victory over Millwall at The Den before the international break will have given the club a huge morale boost ahead of what is set to be a tough run of fixtures.

Play like they did against the Lions on Saturday, and Barnsley have a chance of springing a surprise upon their big-spending opponents.

Barnsley fans, do you think Yiadom will stay until the summer or will he be gone in January? Have your say below…
