Barnsley have completed the signing of George Moncur, announcing his arrival on their official website.
The 22-year-old midfielder joins from Colchester United and has signed a 3-year deal with the Tykes following their promotion from League One via the play offs last term.
Moncur had a good season in a poor Colchester side, scoring 14 goals in the campaign, including two against his newest employers.
He started his career with West Ham United but failed to really establish himself at Upton Park and made the permanent move to Colchester in 2014 following a successful loan spell. He helped the club stave off relegation during his first full season, playing a vital role as the U’s managed to preserve their League One status.
However, the season following he couldn’t quite do enough to fend off relegation for the club, and they were duly relegated last season.
A fee has not been confirmed for the skillful midfielder but their are murmurings of a fee of around £500k being agreed between the two clubs.
Barnsley have recently appointed Paul Heckingbottom on a permanent deal as manager after he led them to promotion and Johnstones Paint Trophy glory last season.
Tykes fans, what do you think to this? Good signing? Let us know in the comments!
