According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Barnsley and Bristol City are two Sky Bet Championship clubs interested in signing Toumani Diagouraga from Leeds United.

Diagouraga does not feature in Thomas Christiansen’s plans at Elland Road, with Leeds looking to terminate the midfielder’s contract in the coming days, allowing him to make a move elsewhere.

The rangy midfielder arrived at Elland Road in Janaury 2016 from Brentford, and has gone on to make 20 appearances for Leeds since then, scoring three goals for the club.

The latest of those appearances came on the opening day of the 2016/17 season, with Diagouraga now not featuring for Leeds’ first-team for over a year.

Diagouraga did spend time on-loan with Ipswich Town last season, making 12 appearances for Mick McCarthy’s side and helping them avoid a relegation battle in the Sky Bet Championship.

However, since returning to Elland Road, Diagouraga has only briefly featured in pre-season, failing to earn a place on Leeds’ pre-season tour of Austria and missing out on a squad number ahead of the new season.

Barnsley and Bristol City are two Championship clubs reportedly interested in signing the 30-year-old, who is also attracting attention from League One outfit, MK Dons.

The Verdict

It is no surprise to see Leeds looking to move Diagouraga on, with the midfielder having just one year remaining on his contract at Elland Road and a number of other options ahead of him in the pecking order.

Championship interest is also no surprise with the midfielder still having plenty to offer in the second-tier, despite not featuring in Leeds’ plans.

Diagouraga arrived in Leeds with an exceptional reputation, and during his first six-months at Elland Road he showed why the Whites made a huge effort to sign him, which is why there will be plenty of options across England for the 30-year-old.
