Barnsley are already preparing for their Championship return following their second-placed finish in League One.

Daniel Stendel's side secured promotion in the week leading up to the final day of the season, and the Tykes are now assessing their transfer options in order to bolster the squad ahead of next term.

A number of players have already been linked to the Oakwell outfit, but Motherwell midfielder Alejandro Rodriguez Gorrin has emerged as the latest name who could be heading to the club, according to HITC Sport.

The 25-year-old is available as a free agent this summer after a string of impressive displays in the second half of the season in the Scottish Premier League.

Rodriguez Gorrin registered 18 league appearances during his time at Motherwell, while displaying a high degree of versatility by operating right across the midfield.

The report claims that Barnsley have joined Rotherham, Fleetwood Town and Oxford United in pursuit of the former Sunderland youngster, but it is understood Rodriguez Gorrin is yet to make a decision on where he wants to ply his trade next season.

The Verdict

This would a solid signing for Barnsley.

Rodriguez Gorrin has developed enormously at Motherwell to earn an extended run in the side during the second half of the season, and he now looks ready to test himself in English football.

Despite being slightly older than the players Barnsley usually recruit, Rodriguez Gorrin still has a point to prove and he would add some solid depth to Stendel's side.
