Barnsley have set plans firmly in motion for their Championship return by confirming one of their star men has agreed fresh terms at Oakwell.

Daniel Stendel's side achieved a second-placed finish in League One in a season where they boasted the best defence in the league, but this was also supplemented by an impressive attack.

Kiefer Moore bagged 17 goals before his injury, but he was then replaced in the side by able deputy Cauley Woodrow who scored 16 goals in his 31 League One appearance.

The Tykes have now been boosted by the news that Woodrow has extended his stay at Oakwell until 2022. The former Fulham striker signed on a permanent deal with the club in January, but this fresh deal will likely be more reflective of his importance to Stendel's side.

After settling his future in January, Woodrow's form went from strength-to-strength in the second half of the season as he quickly established himself as an integral member in this Barnsley side.

"I've loved my time at Barnsley so far," he told the club's Twitter.

"The squad of lads here is great and on a personal level, I've had a good season. We'll all have a good break over the summer now and come back ready to attack the Championship."

Woodrow ended the season on a positive note, scoring five goals in seven matches, and Barnsley will be hoping he can continue this form next season.

The Verdict

This sets the correct tone for Barnsley's important summer.

Woodrow is ideal for Barnsley in that he is still young, hungry and has already shown the club his abilities this season.

The Tykes now need to ensure they secure new deals for the likes of Adam Davies and Dimitri Cavare, while also bringing in new additions to compete at Championship level.
