Stoke City are ready to move for Barnsley goalkeeper Adam Davies to replace Jack Butland, should the England goalkeeper be signed by a Premier League side.

Davies, who is out of contract with the Yorkshire side, has made 42 league appearances for The Tykes this season, helping Daniel Stendel's side to make an immediate return to the Championship.

As well as earning him call up to the Wales squad throughout the season, Davies' performances for Barnsley also saw him selected in both the EFL and PFA League One teams of the season.

That success appears to have caught the eye of those already in The Championship, with The Stoke Sentinel claiming that Stoke are set to target Davies to replace current number one Jack Butland should he leave in the summer transfer window.

A number of top tier sides are said to be interested in Butland, with Watford and Bournemouth both said to be planning moves for the England international, who has made 133 appearances for Stoke since joining from Birmingham in 2013.

The Verdict

This would be a good signing for Stoke as a replacement for Butland.

Davies is a high quality goalkeeper who has played a huge part in Barnsely's promotion campaign this season.

With his contract expiring in the summer, it would also free up Stoke to spend the funds from what could be a lucrative fee for Butland elsewhere in the squad, which is expected to change considerably before the start of next season.
