According to Spanish sports news outlet Mundo Deportivo, FC Barcelona could make a shock swoop for Florian Thauvin this summer.
Newcastle United’s Florian Thauvin is currently serving a season long loan at French Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille and his performances in the French top tier have caught the eye of Barcelona.
According to this report, Barcelona had scouts watching France’s international fixture with Luxembourg and they will watch again when France take on Spain tomorrow in an international friendly.
The report claims that Antoine Griezmann was Barcelona’s main reason for sending scouts to watch France but they are also casting an eye over Monaco’s Djibril Sidibe and, surprisingly, Florian Thauvin.
Thauvin never really got going in England after joining Newcastle in summer 2015 and he has spent the past season and a half back on loan at Marseille.
The 24-year-old previously claimed that his move to Marseille had already been made permanent so any potential transfer with Barcelona might not include Newcastle at all.
Newcastle fans – what do you make of this? Does Barcelona’s interest show that you were a bit hasty in judging Thauvin? Will any deal be struck with you or is he Marseille’s player now? Let us know in the comments below…
