After three months of waiting, West Bromwich Albion have finally received assurance that there will be a compensation fee paid for Louie Barry's move to Barcelona.

The 16-year-old rejected a deal offered to him by the Baggies in favour of a move to the Catalan giants in July. Because of this, the current Championship leaders are owed €250,000 (£215,500) in training compensation.

The move is already paying dividends to, after Barry scored on his youth-team debut for Barcelona as they defeated CD Ebro's Under-19 side 6-0 on Sunday.

According to the Daily Mail, West Brom have finally had contact from Barcelona officials to accept that there is still money outstanding for Barry who became the first English player to be installed into the Barcelona La Masia academy.

The same source reported that West Brom had offered the local lad, from Sutton Coldfield near Birmingham, a three-year contract comprised of a one-year scholarship followed by a two-year professional deal when he turned 17.

But the youngster opted for Spain, and the striker will have the ability to learn from the absolute best at the club and experience a different style of football to further widen his already impressive experience at such a young age.

A hold up with paperwork had delayed Barry's registration with Barcelona for some time before he was finally allowed to start staking his claim in the youth ranks of the European superpower.

All the hype surrounding the player hit after he scored 10 goals in five games for England U15's during a tournament in Italy.

The verdict

There is no doubt that this lad has a bright future.

Moving to a foreign country at such a young age takes a lot of bravery and self-belief.

Those are also two things every striker must have, and Barry is already showing he has it in abundance.

The culture shock is something to take under consideration too. If he can handle it and keep progressing, he will already be light-years ahead of most other English youngsters.

The maturity alone will tell. He will grow up much quicker and be much the better for it just by being out there.
