Tobias Figueiredo's future at Nottingham Forest is up in the air, with the defender reportedly keen on the idea of returning to Portugal due to non-football related reasons.

The Athletic claim that Figueiredo is open to the idea of returning to his native due to reasons off the pitch, leaving his future on Trentside looking uncertain ahead of the final week of the transfer window.

Figueiredo impressed on loan from Sporting Lisbon in the second half of the 2017/18 campaign, enough so to earn him on a permanent contract at the City Ground under Aitor Karanka in 2018/19.

Last season, the 26-year-old - who has made a total of 63 appearances for Forest - played 34 games under Sabri Lamouchi last term, forging a solid defensive partnership alongside Joe Worrall.

Forest, though, have been extremely busy in bringing in players this transfer window, with 12 new faces arriving at the City Ground.

The likes of Loic Mbe Soh, Scott McKenna and Tyler Blackett have joined the club, adding real competition to the heart of defence.

Figueiredo was even left out of the squad against Huddersfield Town on Friday night, with McKenna and Mbe Soh being handed their debuts straight away.
