Sunderland head into the second leg of their play-off semi-final against Portsmouth with a one-goal advantage to take to Fratton Park.
Chris Maguire handed the Black Cats a 1-0 victory on Saturday to put them ahead in the tie, but Pompey will now have the home advantage when the sides meet on Thursday evening.
Jack Ross has some difficult selection decisions on his hand with Maguire’s goal forcing him into contention for a starting place, while Sunderland have their fingers crossed that Aiden McGeady will be fit after getting injured in Saturday’s warm-up.
But it appears there is one Sunderland man who definitely won’t be involved in the reverse fixture following a message he posted on his Instagram page.
Bali Mumba has not featured for Jack Ross’ side since December, and he has now confirmed his season his over with his latest post:
Mumba made eight senior appearances in the first half of the season, but he has been playing largely with the U23s and U18s since the turn of the year.
The 17-year-old started Sunderland’s first two matches of the League One season back in August, but it appears he is now out of the first-team picture at the Stadium of Light for the time being.
This is not a huge surprise as nobody was really expecting Mumba to feature on Thursday after not being named in the squad for so long.
Mumba must now strive to impress in pre-season in order to get more first-team opportunities next season.
Many Sunderland fans believe he should be getting much more game time, but he is still very young. Mumba will have a big role to play in Sunderland’s future.
