Millwall are set to sign Sheffield United forward Oli Burke on loan, according to Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett

With Jon Dadi Bodvarsson leaving the club this month, it seems Gary Rowett has turned to the loan market to add more firepower.

But is that a good signing for the Lions? And do they need him?

With Tom Bradshaw’s injury, Jed Wallace uncertainty and Matt Smith and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson’s exits, there is certainly a need for attacking reinforcements at The Den.

It would appear, given their recent business, that the Lions would only have the finances to facilitate a loan move for Burke, which given they are a direct rival in the play-off hunt with the Blades, could be a little bit counter-productive.

However, if Burke is not in Heckingbottom’s plans for the rest of the season then an alternative destination for him would be sensible.

The Scotsman has bags of ability, that much has been clear since his days at Nottingham Forest, Gary Rowett has not set up his team to see strikers thrive in recent years, but Burke needs the platform.

If it came off, Burke and Afobe would be a menacing strike force though both have not shown their best form in recent years.

Millwall could probably find a better-suited loanee than Burke, but with their lack of options in the final third, it would be a decent addition.

I think it's fair to say that the jury is always going to be out on Oli Burke now if and when he joins a new side.

That's not meant to sound like a criticism, but he'll be the first to admit that things haven't gone how he would have liked in recent seasons, especially when there was so much expected of him.

Clearly, he has got talent and ability but the set-up needs to be right for him and you just have to hope that he can find it soon to start really kicking on with his game.

Millwall might be able to help him along as they have done so with other players in similar situations in the past, but you just cannot predict that right now with Burke.

I really hope if he does go there it works out for him as a footballer, though, as he has too much talent to just be knocking around club after club.

Burke has a big point to prove but as everyone knows, Rowett loves a challenge.

For me he is a player that is in the same sort of mould as Jed Wallace, so it could be a like for like replacement.

He isn’t wanted by Sheffield United and is seemingly free to depart this month, so there shouldn’t be too many hold ups with this one if Millwall make an offer.

They need to add more depth to their attacking option, so he’s certainly a necessary addition.

It would be intriguing to see if they can get a lot out of him if he moves there.
