Slaven Bilic could be appointed the new manager of West Brom later this week, according to the Express & Star.

West Brom reportedly engaged in talks with the Croatian last Tuesday, and talks over the weekend showed signs of promise.

Talks with previous candidates Slavisa Jokanovic and Bruno Labbadia broke down due to differences over finances, according to BirminghamLive and Express & Star.

It is believed that talks are entering their final stages, with discussions over salary still yet to take place - but both parties are keen.

The former West Ham manager has been out of a job since February when he was sacked by Al-Ittihad, and a move to West Brom would see him return to management in England after 18 months away.

West Brom meanwhile have been without a permanent manager since March when they parted company with Darren Moore. With the preparations for next season about to begin soon, this could be a big step in their search for a new boss.

He is currently odds on favourite for the role at 4/1, and if Express & Star are correct, Bilic will be appointed once owner Guochuan Lai confirms his approval.

The Verdict

This is very good news for Baggies fans, not least because it will finally bring an end to their long search for a permanent manager.

Bilic has a wealth of experience and has managed in a variety of footballing environments and in multiple countries. He has an ability to connect with the players he manages and get the best out of them, and that will help him have a successful season at West Brom should be become the manager.
