Huddersfield Town have confirmed that they have parted company with Danny Cowley, despite the club's recent win over West Brom.

The Terriers ran out 2-1 winners over the Baggies at the John Smith's Stadium, which all but confirmed their Championship survival this term.

Cowley had taken charge of Huddersfield when they were in real trouble in the second tier, and looked in serious danger of suffering back-to-back relegations.

It remains to be seen as to who the permanent manager will be for the Terriers moving forward, but Football Insider have recently reported that Huddersfield defender Tommy Elphick is in line to take charge of the club for the final match against Millwall on Wednesday.

But have Huddersfield Town made the right call in parting company with Cowley with a match remaining this season?

We discuss....

George Harbey:

It's absolutely baffling to be honest.

It took a little bit of time for Cowley to get to grips with managing the Terriers and there have been a few worries this season, but ultimately, he has kept them up and done a fantastic job in doing so.

He deserved the chance to reshape his squad this summer, and to get rid of the players he doesn't want and bring in his own type of players to fit into his system, but by all accounts, the owners didn't want to give him that.

I think it's a very risky move, as Cowley has a really bright future in management, I feel, and it feels like a waste.

The Cowley brothers won't struggle to get another job, that's for sure.

Alfie Burns:

I’m slightly surprised.

Having watched a fair amount of Huddersfield this season, there’s been a decent upturn in efforts and performance under Cowley, but there seems more to this than just results.

The chairman clearly wants to take the club in a different direction and he does appear to want to be very involved within the management team, which Cowley didn’t want.

Only time will tell us whether this decision is the right one or the wrong one, but I’m convinced that Danny Cowley will find another job in the Championship in time.

He’s a great guy and this isn’t going to be the last we see of him.

George Dagless:

Quite surprising.

It won't impact them this season now but I am still a bit shocked that they've done it now, though it sounds as though it was for the best.

Huddersfield's statement suggested that the Cowleys and the owners had a difference of opinion as to where the club should head after this season and, that in mind, it makes sense to part ways now.

It's a shame, because I think they would have got the club going in the right direction next year but if there isn't that agreement between manager and owner then you've got a problem.

A surprise, but it seems for the best.
