West Brom look well placed to challenge for promotion this season and it’s going to be intriguing to see how they do under Darren Moore.
Certainly, there is some positivity with him right now, which is more than can be said for one of their more recent appointments – Pepe Mel.
Things quickly went to pot under Mel so, in our latest FLW Time Machine piece, we head back to his appointment to gauge what the outlook was when he first arrived and whether it was doomed from the start…
“He was a risky appointment but certainly not doomed from the start by any means.
“His relationship with the fans was always going to be strained but West Brom needed an injection of something new to drag them clear of relegation trouble.”
“West Brom supporters would have been willing to give him a chance.
“But he had a tough job on his hands as West Brom battled to retain their Premier League status at the time.
“It was a losing battle after a few games in charge though.”
“Of course, you give any new manager time and it was a bold move that could have paid off but it’s always a risk when you’re fighting the drop.
“The Baggies were just about safe but it was right he wasn’t at the club long.”
