Aston Villa owner Dr. Tony Xia has revealed that star striker Jonathan Kodjia could miss the remainder of the season due to his latest ankle injury.

The former Bristol City man suffered a fresh blow whilst on international duty with the Ivory Coast to the same ankle that he had broken last season. Boss Steve Bruce warned after the Sunderland game that Kodjia was facing ‘months’ out as he required an operation, but Xia has now given a more detailed verdict.

Replying to a fan on twitter who was looking for a specific timeframe, the owner replied with the below tweet, saying; ‘4-6 months would be my guess’.

Should it be the worst case scenario, Kodjia’s season would be in serious jeopardy as Villa play their last game of the season at Millwall on May 6, which is under six months away.

Of course, Villa will hope it heals quicker and will be desperate to get the 28-year old back at an earlier date if at all possible.

With injuries to Gabby Agbonlahor and Scott Hogan as well, Villa approach today’s game against Ipswich with Keinan Davis as the club’s only recognised senior striker.

The Verdict

Villa fans would’ve been seriously worried in the week when they heard Steve Bruce’s comments and they’ll be worse now.

The prospect of going six months without Kodjia is a massive problem for Villa as he has proven himself to be one of the best forwards in the division since arriving in England.

January seems as though it will be a critical moment for the club as they need reinforcements up top anyway, but it’s even more urgent if Xia’s assessment is correct.
