Sheffield Wednesday fell to a 1-0 defeat at Millwall yesterday in what was a very frustrating afternoon for the Owls.
Matt Smith gave the hosts the lead with a header from a corner, however when Jed Wallace was sent off in the first-half it seemed as if Wednesday could maintain their 100% record.
But, it wasn’t to be as the Yorkshire outfit struggled to create clear chances, with the surprising decision to leave Fernando Forestieri out backfiring.
Caretaker boss Lee Bullen told the Sheffield Star that the forward wasn’t included in the 18 because of the physicality of the Lions, with Jordan Rhodes and Atdhe Nuhiu the attacking options on the bench.
And, it’s fair to say that the fans did not agree with the decision to leave the 29-year-old out the squad and many felt he would’ve made a real difference as Wednesday looked to open up a stubborn Millwall defence.
Here’s some of the reaction to Bullen’s explanation from Twitter…
Wrong decision imo. Forestieri is a game changer

"TACTICAL" tactical ineptness more like, we battered against a brick wall with 10 men. Fessi has the ability to change a game with 1 flash of genius but not there to do it. Bad decision Bully!

This alone should make people question Bullen’s suitability. 4 fullbacks in the 18 yet ends up with 2 MF at fullback after 60 minutes. Forestieri left to wander round Meadowhall while 2 of those fullbacks are pointlessly sat bewidered on the bench for 90 mins in London. Tactical?

Really changed my mind after these comments from Bullen. You don't always fight fire with fire and Fernando against big awkward defenders can be a nightmare for them with his low sense of gravity. The fact he had Rhodes on who gets blown over by the wind is also questionable.

I can only assume forestieris head isn’t on it or he’s not at it in training cus its madness not to have a player like that in your squad. You just don’t know what goes on in training though so probably more to it that we don’t know about.

And that’s why he shouldn’t get the job

He thought we might b defending a lead???? So Bullen can look into future now? OK don't start him but have him on bench…… In case your not defending a lead😳
