The Championship promotion race this season has been one of the most exciting in years and it took another huge twist on Saturday.

With Sheffield United travelling to Elland Road to face Leeds United, both sides will have been desperate for a win to seriously stake their claim for a place in the automatic promotion places.

A win for the Whites would have seen them move five points clear of their Yorkshire rivals, but instead, they dropped out of the top two after suffering a 1-0 defeat.

Chris Basham scored the only goal 20 minutes from time in a match that also saw Pontus Jansson suffer a knee injury and go in goal after Kiko Casilla saw red late on.

But it was also a match when somebody who really needed to step up for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, did not.

With Kemar Roofe continuing his spell on the sidelines, Patrick Bamford has been tasked with taking over goalscoring duties.

After bagging twice against West Brom, it all looked good. But a poor showing in midweek against Reading and here has given many reasons for fans to threat over their promotion chances.

At Elland Road on Saturday, Bamford had just four shots in the entire 90 minutes, with none finding the target. A poor showing for a supposedly goal-hungry forward.

It was his control that seriously let him down, showing next to know ability in terms of holding the ball up and bringing others into play, losing control of passes six times.

Leeds are not yet out of the promotion race, but they will seriously need their main striker to up his game significantly.
