Back in April, Leeds United were rocked by the news that assistant head coach Steve Thompson had been suspended by the club, with no reason given why he'd received the sack.

The mystery behind Thompson's suspension is still hanging over Elland Road as the club now look to restructure. At the time, head coach Neil Redfearn was left to lead the club without any support, which in turn saw the team's form dip and placed a cloud of uncertainty over Redfearn's tenure.

Speaking to footballfancast.com Thompson has finally spoke out on his suspension from the club and still doesn't know why he was let go.

In the interview Thompson said; "I will have my say on the matter, I have been quiet for too long but there was no incident. I was suspended for no reason what so ever. I got suspended and I am still waiting for the reason why."

When the news broke out, rumours were rife of various reasons why Thompson was suspended, with none of them having any real substance to them. These rumours included him undermining the board and challenging their moves in the market to a somewhat of a fracas between him and Sporting Director Nicola Salerno at the away match against Fulham.

Although they stayed rumours, Nicola Salerno, who originally handed Thompson the letter describing his suspension, has not been seen at the club since and has now left Elland Road despite having a year still to go on his contract.

Whatever happens next between Leeds and Thompson, the former Blackpool caretaker boss has no intention of returning to Elland Road, stating; "I won't be going back. There is no way. Leeds United are a big club, but no one treats me like that, especially when I have done nothing.

"That's the disappointing thing for me. If I had done something wrong, I would have held my hand up and walked away but to suspend someone for nothing - I don't work for people like that."

Thompson joined Leeds to work with long-time friend Redfearn when the club were two points away from the relegation zone. The duo gave the club their Championship safety but Redfearn has since been replaced by new head coach Uwe Rosler, a fact Thompson was very disappointed with.

"I think he wanted to stay, it's disappointing how it has all happened." said the former Bolton Wanderers and Leicester City midfielder, "Neil has kept his dignity in how he has handled things. He deserves a lot of credit for the academy and the young players that have come through."

Thompson's praise for Redfearn's approach at Leeds isn't the only praise rewarded to the academy boss. Having seen the emergence of Alex Mowatt, Kalvin Phillips, Lewis Cook and Charlie Taylor while in charge of the club, Redfearn has given Leeds' future a glimmer of hope with these young stars and Thompson insists they're the best he's ever seen.

Speaking out about his future in English football, the 50-year-old hopes that clubs understand that there was no wrongdoing in his suspension at Leeds United and hopes to move on from the debacle as soon as possible.

"I just pray it doesn't tarnish the work I have done. It's just a case of waiting for the phone to ring and I can move on and make a fresh start."
