Birmingham City are one of the Championship's biggest strugglers and Gianfranco Zola has had a seriously tough start to his tenure at the club.

Blues fans have seen their side plummet from top-six contenders to genuine relegation fighters and after a 3-1 home defeat to Leeds United this weekend, the club sit 17th in the table and just nine points above the trap door.

It's been a staggering couple of months which has seen Birmingham win only twice during Zola's reign, and many supporters are questioning the appointment of the Italian in the first place.

But away from Zola's time at the club, it's also easy to remember some other particularly poor players that have turned out for the Blues and sadly, there's plenty to chose from.

So with things going from bad to worse on the pitch this season, we want to open the vault and have a look at some of the Birmingham City howlers from the past decade.

Here's our worst Birmingham City XI from the last ten years - What are your thoughts?

GK: Richard Kingson

Once branded as a "waste of space" by former Birmingham City owner David Sullivan, Richard Kingson is a pretty awful first name in our worst Brum team of the last decade.

Somehow, he notched up over 80 appearances for the Ghanaian national side but his time with Blues was, at times, cringe-worthy.

He played just three times for the club and in that time, he knocked himself out running into a goal post and let a Sulley Muntari strike trickle through his legs in a home tie against Portsmouth.

LB: Grégory Vignal

Who I might hear you cry?

Sadly for French utility man Grégory Vignal, he might possibly be one of the most forgettable signings in Birmingham City history, let alone over the past ten years.

The Frenchman arrived at the club during the Alex McLeish days after a strong performance in a friendly but was released at the end of the season after making just a handful of appearances.

Injuries blighted his time at St Andrews but he's certainly not a name that would be welcomed back anytime soon.

CB: Tyler Blackett

On 31st January 2014, Manchester United youngster Tyler Blackett joined Blues on a youth loan until the end of the season.

Naturally, bringing in a youngster from a club like United always seems to get the fans going but it took all over 38 minutes in his debut against Derby County to know that Blackett wasn't good enough at this level.

He tripped Will Hughes to give away a penalty and despite the game ending 3-3, it was clear he wasn't going to become a Blues legend.

Now at Reading.

CB: Peter Ramage

Now playing in the second tier in America, Peter Ramage was a Football League journeyman who spent plenty of time out on-loan.

In February 2012, he joined Birmingham City on an emergency loan and made just 14 appearances during his time at the club. He was a player that always seemed to put in a shift but one that was there just to fill a hole with injuries blighting the side.

Went on to play for Coventry, Kerala and is currently with Arizona. Forgettable to say the least.

RB: Greg Halford

Not often do players go from defenders to becoming a striker before being converted back to a defender in their careers.

But that can certainly be said for Greg Halford, who made just three appearances for Birmingham during a two-month spell at the club.

He's now at Cardiff City and back in defence but he was quickly forgotten down at St Andrews and was simply a player signed to provide cover. Uninspiring and quite forgettable indeed.

RM: Alexander Hleb

It's rare that Blues fans get to see former Barcelona players line up on the wing down at St Andrews but that very much became a reality when Alex Hleb signed a season-long loan deal in 2010.

He missed the league cup final after injury and once branded Birmingham's football "not to his taste" and reiterated his desire to return to Arsenal.

He had spells in Turkey and Belarus after leaving Blues but his time at St Andrews was underwhelming for a player that arrived with such a reputation.

CM: Michel

Spanish midfielder Michel arrived at Birmingham for a hefty fee of £3million in the winter of 2010, with the former Oviedo man being compared to Javier Mascherano by Spanish footballing expert Guillem Balague.

But the former of Barry Ferguson kept him out of the side for long spells of the season and in the following January, he was listed for sale by the club. He went on-loan and didn't play for Blues again.

For the promise hoped, he was very poor indeed.

CM: Hayden Mullins

How Hayden Mullins went onto appear nearly 40 times for Birmingham City is still beyond many supporters, who branded him as one of the worst midfielders to ever turn out for the club.

The former Portsmouth man typifies the sort of player Blues had to make do with during their cash-strapped days under Carson Yeung and still to this day, he's not well liked by supporters.

LM: David Bentley

So much was promised by former Spurs man David Bentley when he moved to Blues and he's certainly the sort of player who was overvalued throughout most of his professional career.

He's a player that certainly had the talent needed to make it at the top level but one that had nowhere near the right amount of desire, heart or work-rate needed to get there.

He once stormed out of the Blues dressing room because he was placed on the bench and his attitude always seemed a cause for concern throughout his entire career.

ST: Nikolai Brock-Madsen

The jury is still out on Nikolai Brock Madsen, who was one of Gary Rowett's 2015 summer signings.

He largely failed to make an impact in his first season of English football and on many occasions he's been likened to a poor mans Nikola Zigic.

He's currently on-loan at Zwolle where he's having a much better time of it but is he going to lead Gianfranco Zola's Birmingham City line next season? It's highly unlikely.

ST: Aaron McClean

Once one of the Football League's most prolific scorers, Aaron McClean once scored 33 goals for Peterborough United during their League Two days but his time at Birmingham was nothing like we saw during his spell at London Road.

He played 7 times during a loan spell in the 2013-2014 season and didn't score. His career then nosedived and after turning out for a number of League Two sides, he's currently with Ebbsfleet United.
