A number of Nottingham Forest fans have been lamenting the performance by midfielder Harry Arter during their 2-0 defeat at Reading which saw their winless run stretch to five matches.

Chris Hughton’s side headed into the game under pressure to get back to winning ways and end a goal drought after not scoring in their last four fixtures in the Championship. However, there hopes of doing that were heavily impacted by Ryan Yates being shown a red card inside the 14th minute for a handball on the line after Brice Samba’s error. The hosts took the lead from the resulting spot-kick.

Against Reading the Republic of Ireland international was unable to really prevent the Royals from gaining a complete grip on the game after Forest went down to ten men. The 30-year-old struggled to affect the game in possession when he was able to get on the ball and it became difficult for Forest to create any real chances going forwards.

Arter arrived in the summer from Fulham with expectations that he would be able to come in and improve the Reds’ midfield, but he has so far struggled to help Forest turn things around and this latest performance saw him brought off by Chris Hughton with half an hour remaining.

Some Forest fans were left questioning why he was signed in the summer, while others were just pointing out that he did not offer enough for the Reds in what was another difficult day for them.

Here then, we take a look at some of the best reactions to Arter’s display on social media…
