After an electric start to the 2016/17 campaign, things were about to turn slightly sour for Nottingham Forest.

The Reds had made an eye-opening start to the Sky Bet Championship campaign under Philippe Montanier, winning three out of five league games and scoring 11 goals in front of their own crowd.

One of their standout performers was young winger Oliver Burke, and his form in front of goal hadn't gone unnoticed in the early stages of the campaign. Here, we take a look at the reaction when the Scottish attacker signed for Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, for a reported fee of £13million...

This was a massive sucker-punch for Forest - Burke had impressed in the academy and come through the ranks at the City Ground, scoring four goals in Forest's opening five league games under Montanier.

Naturally, his departure to Germany came as a massive shock to Forest fans, and despite receiving a huge fee for the winger, there was little time to spend the money, with fans quick to turn on owner Fawaz Al-Hasawi.

But Burke has endured a terrible few years since departing the City Ground, and in the end, Forest have arguably dodged a bullet with this one.

The winger failed to make an impact for Leipzig, and then failed to make an impact at West Brom following his £15million arrival at the Hawthorns.

After the Baggies were relegated to the Championship, the wide-man failed to get a look-in under Darren Moore this season, and has since impressed on loan at Celtic over the last few months.

Forest fans would have loved the money to have been invested a lot better, but with the club currently sitting within touching distance of the play-off places in the Championship, it's fair to say that they were lucky with this one...
