Charlton Athletic have made Macauley Bonne their first signing of the season, with the striker signing a three-year deal.
The Addicks reportedly met Bonne’s buyout clause of £200,000 despite doubt over the future of manager Lee Bowyer and chairman Roland Duchatelet.
However, Charlton’s Head of Recruitment Steve Gallen previously stated the club were targeting forwards as their highest priority, and Bonne meets that remit.
At Leyton Orient Bonne kickstarted his career, scoring 45 goals in his two-year spell in non-league as he led The O’s to the National League title last season.
He is a much need addition at The Valley. The departures of Josh Parker, Igor Vetokele and Nicky Ajose left Charlton short of options up front, with Lyle Taylor the only striker in the squad prior to Bonne’s arrival.
That means it is welcome news for Addicks fans, and they have taken to Twitter to express their delight with their first summer addition.

Awesome. Now sign up Bow his staff and the players that are integral to the team, because that’s long overdue.

Love signing hungry lower league players than the average journeymen. Hope he does the business.
