West Brom are considering a move for Patrick Vieira as they look to appoint a long-term successor to Darren Moore this summer.

The former player was sacked in March with Jimmy Shan taking over on a caretaker basis until the end of the season, which came last night as they lost to Aston Villa on penalties.

So, the focus now is on bringing in a new boss and the Telegraph have revealed that former Arsenal midfielder and current Nice head coach Vieira is a potential target.

His side are currently seventh in Ligue 1 heading into the final two games of the season.

Here our writers share their thoughts on this update...

George Harbey

"I think they should avoid this at all costs.

"They need an experienced manager to take them back up to the Premier League, and Vieira just doesn’t possess enough experience to do so as he has only had a few seasons as a manager.

"If they were going to appoint him, then why not keep Shan?"

Ben Lang

"I like the sound of Vieira. It would be a forward-thinking appointment.

"The former midfielder has made a promising start to his managerial career, and he knows English football well.

"This would be a more risky appointment than Hughton, but it will certainly inspire Albion fans more."

Chris Gallagher

"This would be an ambitious move.

"Vieira has had a very good first season in France and it would be a big ask to ask him to move from Ligue 1 to the Championship.

"But, if Albion manage to do so it would be a real coup given his pedigree in the game and should excite fans."
