Ross McCormack has issued an update on his future at Aston Villa whilst he is out on loan at Central Coast Mariners.

The striker is currently on a season-long loan deal at the Australian side and has formed an unlikely striker partnership alongside former Olympic gold-medalist, Usain Bolt.

McCormack has been at Aston Villa since August 2016, but has only gone on to make 24 appearances which will be deeply disappointing news for both McCormack and Villa fans, who would have been keen to seem him recapture the sort of form that made him a success at both Fulham and Leeds.

However, the 32-year-old has had his say on his future at Aston Villa and his latest statement will come as good news to some Villa fans who would like to see the back of McCormack.

'I can’t see it, to be honest,” McCormack told Fairfax Media (Via Sky Sports). “That ship’s probably sailed, but it’s hard to say.

'I’ve still got another year left after this season, so you can never say never. I’d probably be surprised if that changed something for me.'

McCormack had previously represented Melbourne and his spell at the club was a successful one after he scored 14 goals in just 17 appearances. The Scotsman remains confident that he can repeat his success this year at his new club.

'I’ve always believed if I play games, then I’ll score goals.

'I’m not really thinking about me. My career will take care of itself. I’m just trying to help everyone achieve what they’ve set out to do.'

The Verdict:

It's come as no surprise to see McCormack stating that his future lies away from Aston Villa, but some Villa fans will argue that he should be given another opportunity at the Championship club under the new management of Dean Smith and John Terry.

At the age of 32, he will be looking for more regular game time on a permanent basis, having only featured for Villa on two occasions last season.
