Tranmere Rovers have today confirmed the sacking of manager Keith Hill.

Despite guiding the club to the League Two play-offs, Tranmere chairman Mark Palios has made the decision to relieve Hill of his duties as first-team manager with immediate effect.

The 51-year-old had been coming under increased scrutiny over the last few months after a string of underwhelming performances, and a controversial post-match interview on Saturday as the club snuck into the League Two play-off picture.

Hill's assistant Ian Dawes will take charge for the play-offs and he will be assisted by Andy Parkinson, with Rovers set to face off against Derek Adams' Morecambe next Thursday at Prenton Park.

Speaking about the decision to sack Hill to the club's official website, chairman Mark Palios said: “Despite success achieved on the pitch in the form of securing a place in the Play-Offs and reaching the Papa John’s Trophy final, in the Play-Offs an entire season gets distilled into two or three games.

“I have to do what I think gives us the best chance of achieving promotion in those games and I have reluctantly come to the conclusion that means making the change before the semi-finals begin.”

The news created a mixture of responses from fans on social media, with many outside of Tranmere somewhat perplexed at the announcement of the sacking.

However, it appears the majority of the Tranmere faithful are positive about this bold call from Palios, as per the reaction on Twitter.
