It may have gone down to the wire, but Wigan striker Will Grigg finally signed for Sunderland as manager Jack Ross looked to find the goal-scorer who could provide his side with the goals following Josh Maja's departure to Bordeaux.

Grigg had been at Wigan since 2015, scoring 52 goals in 126 appearances for the Latics and joins a Sunderland side fourth in League One, and looking to bounce back to the Championship at the first attempt.

So will Ross start Grigg straight away when he's available for selection?

We discuss.....

Gary Hutchinson

“At £4m? Yes.

“Charlie Wyke has struggled and I fear for him now. I think those injuries saw him left behind.

“He’s not a Maja type figure, but Grigg can be. He’s a little more flamboyant and cultured.

“If Ross doesn’t start him there will be uproar on Wearside.”

Jacob Potter

"They need to manage him carefully.

"Grigg will eventually be one of the first names on Jack Ross’ team-sheet and I think that he will prove to be the missing piece in the promotion jigsaw for Sunderland.

"But after making his return from injury, they’ve got to be careful in rushing him back as he could pick up a similar injury."

Alfie Burns

“When you push that hard to sign someone I think he goes straight into your starting XI.

“Sunderland’s pursuit of Grigg was bordering ridiculous and he’s surely got a leading role to play from here.

“That’s no bad thing, though, he will score goals.”

Jay Taylor

“Big Charlie Wyke scored at the weekend and is fit again, but you could imagine they would be a great double act.

“There will be a temptation to start him, and he should go with that feeling and run with it.

“Grigg is a goal scorer – Sunderland want and need goals and that is what Grigg was signed to do.

“Get him in the team; there is no time better than the present.”
