Aston Villa are still licking their wounds following confirmation that they face another year of Championship football.

A 1-0 play-off final defat to Fulham has left Steve Bruce’s side facing a third consecutive year in the second-tier, much to the disappointment of all associated with the club.

Dr Tony Xia has released a statement confirming changes will have to be made this summer, with the Villa figurehead well aware of the Financial Fair Play punishments Villa need to be avoiding.

Those FFP issues mean the summer is going to be huge for Villa.

Already we know that Villa will be forced to make changes to their playing squad, with departures and arrivals sure to be expected at Villa Park as the summer transfer window goes on.

Here at FLW, we take a look at the spine of Villa’s side and what it could potentially look like next season…

Pantilimon has been linked with a loan move to Villa Park, as Bruce looks to replace Sam Johnstone.

The Watford goalkeeper impressed on-loan at Nottingham Forest last season and would be a shrewd addition.

Chester was ever-present for Villa last season, impressing alongside John Terry.

With no Terry around next season, Chester’s role is going to be so important.

Jack Grealish might still be around, but if he is sold, O’Hare should step into his role in midfield.

Villa’s supporters are desperate to see the youngster get a chance, and next season could well be that time.

Kodjia struggled with injury last season, with Lewis Grabban preferred during the run-in.

Next season, the Ivorian needs to be finding his best again for Bruce’s side in a central role.
