Aston Villa will be looking to get out of the woods financially as soon as possible but it seems as though that is going to be tough.

The men from Villa Park have seen themselves plunged into financial uncertainty since losing the play-off final against Fulham.

And now, according to the Times, they may have to owe further money - this time to former player John Terry.

After the skipper saw the club fail to get promoted it quickly became clear that he would not be staying with Villa needing to cut their wage bill.

As per this report, though, if he retires this summer or stays a free agent the club will owe him up to £560,000 in wages owing for the last couple of months of his contract.

Certainly, this is a fair chunk of money for a club that needs every penny right now, and so it remains to be seen how they resolve this.

The Verdict

Villa fans will hope that Terry signs a deal elsewhere or decides to waive the figure for the final months of his deal but it's up for debate as to whether that happens.

Certainly, it's a cost that Villa could do without.
