Aston Villa winger Andre Green has found his game time largely limited this term since making his loan move to Preston North End in the summer.

The youngster has only turned out for the Championship side on four occasions so far, with all of his appearances coming via the substitutes bench, totalling a disappointing 87 minutes played.

This has inevitably opened up the possibility of Green being recalled by his parent club, with a view to either selling on or loaning out the 21-year-old, who is now close to entering the final six months of his contract at Villa Park.

Midway quiz: How much can you remember of Brentford’s season as the halfway point approaches?

The rumour mill has been in full swing over the winger's future this week, with Football Insider reporting that the speedy wideman is wanted by second division Brentford, as well as other potential suitors from across Europe.

Green has only made 49 appearances for Villa and has seemingly been deemed surplus to requirements by manager Dean Smith.

The Verdict

This could be a good prospective move for the young winger, particularly with his long-term future seeming to be largely unclear after enduring a season to forget so far at Preston.

A move to Brentford would allow him to potentially resurrect his reputation and finally get some regular minutes under his belt as he seeks to prove to Villa that he is worthy of a new contract.

The Bees have developed a strong reputation for nurturing young talent in recent years, with the likes of Ollie Watkins and Josh Dasilva bring prime examples of what can be achieved at Griffin Park under Thomas Frank.

Ultimately the winger's future will depend on Smith, who has a decision on his hands with regards to offering his player fresh terms or choosing to cash in on him in the upcoming January transfer window, with it seeming to be an increasing inevitability that Green will indeed depart the Premier League club.
