Aston Villa are surely looking to improve their squad where they can this transfer window as they aim to challenge for the top six for the rest of the season.

The Villans have kept pace with the top six well up until now, even though at times there has been runs of form that haven't been brilliant.

They'll be doing what they can to strengthen the squad with FFP in mind, then, but whilst we wait to see how they do there it has been revealed that they do not want Jed Steer to leave the club on loan.

The 25-year-old goalkeeper has not played much this season behind Sam Johnstone but when he has featured in cup games he has actually done a good job.

With that in mind, then, sides might want to take him on loan at least but according to the Birmingham Mail, Villa would not sanction such a move.

Indeed, they clearly want to keep him as a back-up to Johnstone and that does make sense especially when you consider that the on-loan goalkeeper is still yet to have his future decided.

The Verdict

Steer has impressed in his handful of games this season and drew plaudits last weekend as one of the few to play well in the FA Cup.

He'll have to make do with a spot on the bench for much of the remainder of this season it seems though.
